ABOUT THE OFFICE OF NATIONAL DATA COMMISSIONER

The National Data Commissioner is the regulator of the Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022 Scheme (DATA Scheme) and provides advice and guidance about its operation. The Commissioner also delivers education and support for best practice data sharing and handling. The Office of the National Data Commissioner (ONDC) sits within the Department of Finance and supports the Commissioner to deliver these functions. 

The ONDC Engagement, Communications and Outreach team provides strategic media and communications advice and support to ONDC and executives. We lead stakeholder engagement and outreach across government, industry and the public in relation to the DATA Scheme. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Office of the National Data Commissioner (ONDC) is seeking candidates to join the ONDC Engagement, Communications and Outreach (ECO) team to work on whole of government initiatives to strengthen how the Australian Government manages and safeguards its data. 

The ECO team is responsible for communicating with and engaging different groups of stakeholders including Commonwealth entities, Australian universities and state and territory governments on how they can participate in the DATA Scheme. The DATA Scheme was established by the Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022. It is a new, best practice scheme for sharing Australian Government data, underpinned by strong safeguards and simplified, efficient processes. The Scheme allows safe data sharing for better government services, policies and programs as well as research and innovation.

We are seeking candidates with proven skills in communications and stakeholder engagement, within government, or the private sector to join our growing team. While our work focuses on data, experience in the data sector is not essential. Professional engagement and communications experience in other sectors is expected.

You will help communicate essential information on best practice data sharing, safe data handling and data education that will ultimately create better outcomes for all Australians. Mediums you will work in include website and social media content, media releases, newsletters, events, videos, webinars and meetings. You will work on and create on successful stakeholder engagement and communications campaigns. You will be expected to work with senior leaders as well as other team members to deliver high-quality resources for entities that can join the DATA Scheme.

You will be responsible for; 

  • helping to manage the team’s incoming correspondence within the Office’s Customer Relationship Management system;
  • helping with the creation of events, newsletters, written reports and briefs, webinars and other communication, engagement and outreach materials;
  • assist with keeping the ONDC website up to date;
  • assist with ONDC webinars and meeting briefs;
  • assist with procurement and forward planning;
  • supporting engagement, communication and outreach campaigns, activities and strategies;
  • helping to contribute in a positive way to the success of our organisation and maintaining a friendly work atmosphere.

All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
