The NIAA external communication team has an important role in the NIAA Communications Branch, supporting and promoting the Agency’s work. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a communications team in the Corporate Group.
You will work in a collaborative and supportive environment, where creativity and ideas are encouraged and valued. There are a variety of roles available supporting our strategic communications, branding and design strategy, and web and social media presence.

Our Ideal Candidate

Reporting to the Manager, Brand, Design and Digital Production, and as part of the External Communications team, you will play a key role in supporting the multimedia delivery of the Agency’s communication and digital strategies. You will have strong experience in delivering all aspects of photography, animation and videography, pre-production to post-production. You will deliver culturally appropriate and engaging communications materials for all NIAA web and social media platforms and ensure the NIAA style guide standards are met.

This role is required to generate regular photo and video communication products, and based on engagement data and feedback you will improve on content that meets the needs of NIAA audiences.

The role will be expected to:
  • understand and apply digital technologies, accessibility standards, and government and industry principles to deliver high-quality video, photo and multimedia solutions
  • prepare concept and scripts for multimedia pieces
  • research and develop story ideas based on project objectives and provide final story concepts for approval
  • tailor and simplify complex content so the key messages can be delivered to various audiences across communities
  • proficient knowledge and use of the Adobe Suite video and photo editing software or any other latest software required for production
  • respond positively in a high paced environment and manage priorities to meet tight timeframes
  • obtain approvals at every project phase for smooth and continuous production operations
  • stay updated with latest media technique, web trends and production technologies
  • working with independence, using good judgement, experience and knowledge and under limited direction establish priorities and best practice, to deliver quality outcomes.The successful candidate will need to:
  • be proficient in the use of camera and other equipment for photography and videography, common video editing programs such as Premier Pro, After Effects, animation development software
  • have basic graphic design requirements using the Adobe suite and digital editing programs like Photoshop
  • have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical credentials in media, film, or a related fieldAll positions in the NIAA are identified and, therefore, cultural competency is a mandatory requirement of all staff. Cultural competence is the ability to participate ethically and effectively in personal and professional intercultural settings. It requires being aware of one’s own cultural values and world view and implications for making respectful, reflective and reasoned choices, including the capacity to imagine and collaborate across cultural boundaries.
NIAA staff are responsible for ensuring that the work we undertake with First Nations peoples is based on mutually respectful relationships and shared understanding. It is important that NIAA staff have knowledge of and value the cultural, social, political and historical contexts and current aspirations of First Nations peoples and communities in which the NIAA is working.
