Job Description:

The Opportunity:

Closing the Gap, Connection and Culture Group has opportunities for Senior Policy and Programs Officers and Assistant Directors in the following Branches:
  • Closing the Gap
  • Culture and Heritage
  • Environment
These roles in policy development and program management will fill a range of current and future vacancies and to establish a merit pool. Successful applicants will be provided with development and support in their roles.
Across the various roles, you will undertake a variety of work:
  • interpreting and drafting policy
  • contribute to programs, projects, contracts and procurement
  • contribute to grant applications processes 
  • represent your team in various forums.
Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal APS4 candidates will have:
  • have a demonstrated record of working in a culturally sensitive manner, with a commitment to furthering cultural capability development
  • developing analytical and research skills, including the ability to provide quality advice based on evidence
  • strong writing skills and the ability to deliver briefings and papers on complex issues
  • excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • ability to identify emerging opportunities or issues and respond quickly to competing priorities 
  • project and/or program management experience will be highly regarded.In addition to the above, our ideal APS5 candidates will have:
  • well-developed analytical and research skills, including the ability to provide quality advice based on evidence
  • strong writing skills and the ability to deliver briefings and papers on complex issues
  • assisting partners and stakeholders to access and navigate NIAA policy and program management processes
  • actively build and maintain productive relationships and inclusive networks with internal and external stakeholders to deliver defined services and outcomes for First Nations people.
Woden, ACT is the preferred location for these roles, however other NIAA office locations may also be considered.

Eligibility:
  • To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level. 
  • The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
