About the Opportunity
The Manager Sustainability leads Council’s sustainability, environment, waste and land management initiatives to help shape and influence the city’s infrastructure and programs, ensuring community needs are met and delivered with a customer focus.
The role leads and is supported by an Environmental Officer, Land Conservation and Operations Supervisor. The Operations Supervisor leads a team of six (6) outdoor employees who predominantly undertake landscaping, lake, weed and irrigation maintenance activities.
This role will establish, cultivate and maintain a culture of collaboration, commitment and accountability, driven by a high customer focus consistent with the strategic direction of Council, underpinned by cost effective operations, use of Council’s resources and a customer ethos of “people are the centre of all we do and deliver”.
Working with the Executive Manager Environment, the Manager Sustainability is responsible for the leadership and management of a range of programs and services, including:
- Waste Management and Education.
- Sustainability Strategy.
- Environment and Land Management Planning.
- Emergency Management.
- Minor and Major Capital Projects as relevant to position.
- Outdoor workforce, focusing on lake maintenance, irrigation and CBD amenity.
About You
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management or a related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience relating to waste, land conservation and/or environment management.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing multidisciplinary teams, projects and programs.
- Demonstrated project and contract management, including experience of tender processes and negotiation.
- Experience in preparing operational and strategic management plans and reporting on implementation.
- Leadership skills with the proven ability and success in working across an organisation and facilitating relevant community engagement activities.
- Experience in managing budgets and resources, ensuring a highly effective customer-centric service team.
- A high level of communication skills including the ability to convey and impart complex information in an easy-to-understand format.
- A positive and proactive attitude towards workplace safety.
- Holds a Class C Driver’s Licence and able to pass pre-employment checks (medical and criminal history)
