Council’s highly skilled Communications team provides communications, engagement and marketing support and advice to teams across the organisation. The team is responsible for the development and distribution of a range of digital and print communications and marketing materials and campaigns to positively promote Council’s programs, events and initiatives, as well as delivering on a range of community engagement activities to ensure our community are consulted on key projects, opportunities and issues that affect them.
About the role:
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer to join our highly productive team. This position will be responsible for the implementation of strategic communications initiatives to support the management of communications and media opportunities and issues relating to the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program (WSIG). The WSIG program includes a diverse range of capital projects being delivered across Campbelltown, including major facility expansions, delivery of new public recreation spaces and upgrades to local town centres and infrastructure.
You will work with teams across the organisation to plan, research and prepare content for a wide range of communication platforms. Your exceptional writing and research skills, combined with your creativity and demonstrated experience with communication strategies will support the promotion of Council’s initiatives, programs and reputation.
Maintaining effective working relationships with key media contacts, internal teams and stakeholders is essential. Some out of hours work may be required for this position.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:
• Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, public relations and/or extensive job-related experience.
• Extensive media liaison skills and ability to proactively seek positive media and photographic opportunities.
• Experience developing and implementing Communications plans and PR activities for major projects
• Demonstrated experience in issues management or public relations
• Extensive experience developing, implementing and monitoring marketing and communications strategies.
• Extensive experience sourcing content and writing for a range of platforms including media releases, articles for publication, online and social media content.
• Ability to coordinate and implement effective proactive media strategies.
• High level of writing and proofing skills and the ability to write speeches.
• Ability to take high quality photos for publication.
• Class C Drivers Licence
