About the role:Walgett Shire Council is seeking a reliable and practical Truck Driver to join our Environmental Resources team.
The main focus of this role is driving Council’s skip bin hook lift truck to collect, transport and manage community waste across the Shire. This is an important frontline role that helps keep our towns, villages and public spaces clean, safe and well serviced.
In addition to skip bin collection work, the successful applicant may also be required to operate Council’s kerb side waste collection truck and assist with other operational duties across Council’s landfills, transfer stations and quarries. This may include operating plant and equipment such as loaders, skid steers, compactors, excavators, tipper trucks and other relevant plant, depending on skills, licences and operational needs.
This role would suit someone with HR truck driving experience who enjoys practical outdoor work, takes pride in looking after equipment, and is willing to be part of a small team delivering essential services to the community.
You do not need to have worked in local government before. If you have truck driving, plant operation, waste, quarry, civil construction, agriculture, transport or similar practical experience, we would like to hear from you.
About you:The successful applicant will:
- hold a current HR driver’s licence or higher
- have experience driving heavy vehicles, ideally including waste trucks, tipper trucks or similar vehicles
- be willing to operate the skip bin hook lift truck as a core part of the role
- be willing to operate the kerb side waste collection truck
- have experience, or a willingness to learn, in operating plant and equipment such as loaders, skid steers, compactors, excavators and other relevant plant
- be reliable, punctual and able to work safely with limited supervision
- have a strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- be practical, hands on and willing to assist with a range of waste, landfill, quarry and general operational duties
- be able to follow instructions, complete basic records and communicate respectfully with staff, contractors and members of the public
- take pride in maintaining vehicles, plant, sites and public facilities to a good standard.
