Make a real impact in the lives of victim-survivors of family violence as a Specialist Family Violence Practitioner- Refuge. In this role you’ll provide crisis support and specialist case management to individuals and families in refuge and transitional housing across Melbourne’s northern suburbs. This role is vital in helping people move from crisis to safety and long-term stability. We are seeking a dedicated Specialist Family Violence Practitioner- Refuge. This role will challenge you—confronting the raw realities of family violence and the complex needs of women and children in crisis. But for those with the strength to stand in that space, it offers the profound reward of helping survivors reclaim their safety, voice, and future.
Reporting to the Family Violence Team Leader this is a Max Term (3.5 Months) , Full Time role, located in Coburg North, Victoria.
This 3.5-month role is not only a chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by family violence, offering support during their most vulnerable moments, but also an invaluable learning opportunity to deepen your understanding of trauma-informed care, community support systems, and the vital work being done in this compassionate and impactful sector.
Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.1
- Be the calm in the chaos, forming trusted, empowering relationships with women and children navigating the devastating impact of family violence.
- Walk every step with purpose, from crisis intake to exit—assessing needs, co-creating case plans, and ensuring victim survivors lead their own path to safety.
- Support real, practical change, providing material aid, connecting clients to vital services, and advocating fiercely to ensure every voice is heard.
- Stand stronger together, working side-by-side with passionate family violence practitioners and service partners to deliver wraparound care that truly transforms lives.
- Shape the future of support, bringing insight, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement that ensures every action counts.
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work, this is essential.
- A Qualification that aligns with the Mandatory Minimum Qualification Requirements for Specialist Family Violence Workers (Recommendation 209)
- Experience working in the family violence sector, this is highly desirable.
- Experience in specialist family violence and/ or child wellbeing work is highly desirable
- Demonstrated case management experience and skills
- Highly developed time management and work prioritisation skills with an ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision required
- Advanced computer skills including experience in data and record management
- A willingness to complete a national police record check
- A Victorian drivers licence
