Your next career opportunity
As a Research Fellow on the ARC Discovery Project at the University of Melbourne, you'll spearhead the coupled numerical modelling of Antarctic sea ice loss. You'll have the opportunity to work with the CICE6 and WAVEWATCH III models, collaborating with experts from multiple institutions. Your research will directly contribute to understanding a crucial mechanism of sea ice retreat, with potential impacts on global climate change studies.
Your keyresponsibilities will be to:
Collaborate and communicate, byworking with project team members, using satellite and field observations to validate models, and presenting findings at seminars and conferences.
Contribute to research culture, byparticipating in School meetings, seminars, and activities to enhance the research environment and mentor junior researchers.
You may be a great fit if:
You are a skilled researcher with a PhD in applied mathematics, statistics, or a related field, experienced in numerical modelling of Antarctic sea ice and Southern Ocean waves, with a strong publication record and excellent communication skills.

The University of Melbourne's School of Mathematics and Statistics is one of Australia's leading mathematics and statistics schools. It has achieved this status through the high quality of its research and teaching programs. The School offers a wide range of subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students and is involved in aspects of community life that impact on the interests of the School and the discipline.
The School of Mathematics and Statistics has a total of 90 continuing teaching and/or research staff; 37 research only staff and consultants; 19 academic specialists and 16 support staff. In 2023, there were 143 Research Higher Degree and 189 Coursework Master of Science students. The School has had 10 staff members inducted as Fellows of the Academy of Science.
