Department: Planning and Regulation
Reports to: Manager Planning and Regulation
Salary Range: $1,075 - $1,227 per 35 hour week + superannuation
Are you ready to take the next step in your construction or regulatory career?
We’re looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Trainee Building Certifier—a unique opportunity to earn a recognised qualification while gaining hands-on experience in the dynamic world of building certification and local government regulation.
In this role, you’ll assist our experienced certifier in assessing construction projects, inspecting sites, and ensuring compliance with building codes, planning controls, and public safety standards. You’ll enjoy a mix of office-based assessment and on-site inspections, support investigations of non-compliant works, and contribute to the preparation of reports, notices and certificates. Whether it’s reviewing plans in the office or walking through a new build on-site, you’ll play a vital role in shaping safe, sustainable developments in your community.
While learning on the job, you’ll also undertake formal studies toward a recognised qualification in building certification—fully supported as part of your 2 year traineeship.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in how things are built—and how to ensure they’re built right. You’ll need to bring at least six months of experience in construction (including relevant trade experience) or a planning-related environment. Perhaps you’ve been on-site, worked in construction crews or compliance, or handled development applications. Now you’re ready to take that next step and invest in a long-term career pathway.
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and professional in their communication. You’ll need solid written and verbal skills, basic computer proficiency, and the ability to learn council systems such as the NSW Planning Portal and GIS mapping tools. A natural curiosity about the built environment, good organisational habits, and the ability to work well within a team will set you up for success.
