About the role
Council is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Casual Librarian to join our vibrant library team.
As a Casual Librarian, you will provide friendly, efficient and knowledgeable service to library customers across our branches.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide professional readers’ advisory, reference, and circulation services
- Assist with library programs, events, outreach, and specialist services
- Lead small teams as required, including training, supervising and evaluating performance
- Promote and support the library's vision and services to both internal and external customers
- Maintain and assess library collections, and carry out workroom tasks
- Support day-to-day library operations and respond to operational challenges as needed
- Perform physical tasks such as moving library materials, equipment, and furniture in line with safe manual handling practices
Required qualifications, skills and experience:
- A professional qualification in Library/Information Science or equivalent
- Eligibility for Associate Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
- A valid Working with Children Check (for Paid Workers)
- Demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality customer service in a public library environment
- Practical experience in readers’ advisory, reference services, circulation duties, and participation in public programs
- Proven ability to follow instructions, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, and time management skills
- High proficiency in using computers, mobile devices, and applications including Microsoft Office, social media, and e-resources
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse team and customer base
- Initiative, flexibility, and enthusiasm to work independently or collaboratively

**As a part of the branch network team this role will be required to work at any of our libraries as rostered. A willingness to work flexible hours on occasion, including rostered evening and weekend work will be required**
