The Opportunity
Are you ready to kick-start your civil engineering career with real-world experience that makes a difference?
As a
Civil Engineering Intern, you'll get hands-on exposure to the exciting world of local government infrastructure-from design and construction to maintenance and asset management. You'll also take the lead on a dedicated project, giving you the chance to apply your skills and make a real impact.

The Details
Anticipated commencement: Monday, 1 December 2025
Contract Type: 12-week term contract completing Friday 27th Feb 2026
Contract Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Pay: $1,073.40 per week + superannuation
Location: 41 Burelli Street, Wollongong
About the Internship
Wollongong City Council helps shape the places we live, work, and play-supporting over 200,000 residents across the region. From Helensburgh to Windang, and Dapto to the coast, we manage a huge range of public infrastructure worth around $4 billion. That includes roads, bridges, stormwater systems, sports fields, pools, libraries, community centres, and more.
As an Engineering Intern, you'll get hands-on experience working on real projects that make a difference. You'll be involved in areas like design, construction, maintenance, and asset management, and you'll also take the lead on a specific project during your internship.
This opportunity is open to students in their final or penultimate year of Civil Engineering at the University of Wollongong. You'll work full-time (35 hours/week) for 12 weeks, starting in December 2025. We'll work with you to set start and finish dates that suit your schedule!
Your employment will be in accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement including a break over the Christmas/New Year period and based at our office in Wollongong CBD.
