We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents.
The Role
A rewarding opportunity has presented itself for a dedicated and driven individual to join our team as a Horticulturist.
In this role you work as part of a team that focuses on the maintenance and improvement of Council's Parks, Gardens, and other landscaped areas with a focus on Sylvan Grove Native Gardens.
This opportunity will be offered on a permanent full-time basis.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Ensure gardens including annuals, native & non-native, high profile, traffic facilities and other landscaped areas are maintained in accordance with service requirements, service agreements, rosters and programs.
- Provide recommendations for mulching, watering, maintenance, embellishment and improvement and implement as required.
- Provide on the job skills development and training to staff.
- Undertake risk and hazard assessments of all areas under the crew's control and where necessary take corrective action.
- Identify, report and where possible rectify landscape deficiencies especially in the area of gardens & landscape area maintenance.
- Provide assistance and advice to Council, management, staff, customers and the community when necessary.
- Ensure all works under the position holder’s control are completed within timeframes.
- Finalise completion of works requests as allocated.

You will have:
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Horticulture or a similar relevant field
- Current Class C Drivers Licence
- Chemical Users Accreditation Certificate or equivalent
- Experience in Gardens maintenance.
- Skills & experience necessary to fulfil the role, responsibilities, duties and competency requirements of the position.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $71,820 (Grade D, Step 1) + AWACA + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
