Tamworth Regional Council is currently seeking expressions of interest a number of rewarding opportunities within our Companion Animals team. These roles provide the chance to combine your skills in animal care with community education and engagement.
Companion Animal Officer (Grade 8 - $62,097.72 - $67,200.78 per annum + Super and Allowances)
If you’re committed to the welfare of companion animals, this role offers the chance to provide hands-on care while supporting adoption and rehoming programs. You’ll also assist with the day-to-day running of the Companion Animals Centre and help educate the community on responsible pet ownership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering high standards of care and management for companion animals.
- Supporting adoption and rehoming initiatives.
- Assisting with daily administration and operations of the Centre and Shelter.
- Providing advice and education to the community on pet ownership.
Senior Companion Animal Officer (Grade 10 - $67,644.30 - $73,196.10 per annum + Super and Allowances)
This role is suited to an experienced professional ready to take on a leadership and mentoring position. You’ll oversee operations at the Companion Animals Centre and Shelter, guide team members and volunteers, and develop rehoming and adoption programs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading day-to-day operations of the Centre and Shelter.
- Designing and promoting adoption and rehoming initiatives.
- Providing induction, training, and support to junior staff and volunteers.
- Offering senior-level advice and community education on pet care and ownership.
Team Leader – Companion Animals (Grade 15 - $88,896.63 - $96,191.20 per annum + Super)
As Team Leader, you will oversee the delivery of animal care and rehoming programs while coaching and mentoring the Companion Animals team. This role also focuses on building strong partnerships with veterinary services and animal welfare organisations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring Companion Animal Officers.
- Delivering effective animal care and rehoming services.
- Promoting responsible pet ownership through community engagement.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with vets and welfare organisations.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
- Certificate III in Animal Studies, Companion Animal Services or similar
- Drivers Licence
- Immunisation for Tetanus (Or willingness to undergo)
- Accredited training in animal behavioural assessment (Senior Companion Animal Officer and Team Leader roles only)
- Authorised microchip identifier and implantation qualifications (Senior Companion Animal Officer and Team Leader roles only)

Salary range: Grade 8 - 15 -$62,097.72 - $96,191.20 per annum plus super and other allowances. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.
