The opportunity
As a Waste Services Officer, this position offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to a community's environmental well-being. Provide valuable experience in the public sector and the environmental services. This could be a stepping stone to more permanent or specialised roles within waste management.
In this role you will:
- Undertake duties that support the Town Services Team including street cleaning, public rubbish bin collection and litter removal
- The position involves the correct operation of, but not limited to, the following plant and includes the correct loading and securing of loads when transferring machinery between work sites, waste collection utility, garbage truck and Compactor, Street Sweeper
- Ensure the servicing and tidiness of Council plant and equipment and the timely reporting of any defects
- Accurately complete documentation associated with plant and equipment operation including a pre-start safety checklist
- Follow standard procedures and complete duties to an agreed level as outlined in a works program
- Contribute to the effective implementation of continuous improvement in the work area and achievement of quality outcomes
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- Hold a current and valid Medium Rigid (MR) Truck Driver licence
- Previous experience in operation of a garbage truck and compactor and/or street sweeper
- Previous experience driving trucks in residential areas
- Ability to undertake pre-start checks and complete required documentation
- Ability to work in a team-based environment
- Knowledge of WHS practices and ability to participate in a safe working environment
- Follow standard procedures and complete duties to an agreed level as outlined in a works program

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $38.89 per hour (includes 25 % casual loading).
