Salary from : $81,190 up to $93,557 per annum plus superannuation

About the position
Are you a qualified Motor or Plant Mechanic with a passion for quality, teamwork, and community service? Join our Fleet Maintenance team and play a vital role in keeping Wollongong moving.
As a Plant and Vehicle Mechanic, you'll provide high-quality mechanical support for Council's fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment. You'll work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, delivering repairs, maintenance, and technical support in a commercially competitive environment.
This is a Term Contract role to 1 May 2026, with the possibility of extension or permanency. You may be required to work flexible hours including being on-call, dependent on operational requirements. This is a hands-on role, applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks relating to the role.
What you will be doing
- Repair, maintain, and install mechanical assets, including plant, trucks, and vehicles.
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
- Plan, schedule, and prioritise daily work activities with limited supervision.
- Participate in job planning, estimating, and fleet management system data entry.
- Support emergency services and provide field service repairs.
- Promote a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible workplace.
- Assist with training customers and team members in safe operation and maintenance.
- Deliver excellent customer service and uphold Council's values in every interaction.
About you
- You are a qualified Motor Mechanic Tradesperson Certificate (or equivalent), bringing hands-on experience and strong technical skills in maintaining a wide range of vehicles, plant, and equipment.
- You'll hold a current MR Driver's Licence and be comfortable working flexible hours, including shift work and being on-call for emergency or programmed maintenance.
- You're a natural team player with excellent communication skills, and you thrive when working independently with minimal supervision.
- Your self-motivation and commitment to continuous learning ensure you stay up to date with the latest mechanical technologies and industry best practices.
- Physically fit and safety-conscious, you understand and apply Work Health and Safety (WHS) systems and procedures in your daily work.
