About the role
We have an exciting new opportunity for an Assistant Building and Compliance Officer to join the Compliance team on a permanent full time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to kick start your professional career in Building Surveying and Compliance with the support of a professional and collaborative team.
Reporting to the Compliance Team Leader, the successful applicant will gain hands on experience and support the team with various duties including:
- Assist the Building & Compliance Officers in the provision of Part 6 Services, Principal Certifier Services and the enforcement of planning and building laws.
- Assist the Team Leader Compliance in the assessment of hoarding and activity applications.
- Assist Council’s Fire Safety Officer in the administration of Council’s Fire Safety program.
- Provide administrative support and maintain Building & Compliance records.
About you
You would have recently completed a relevant tertiary qualification or be currently studying and seeking to gain hands on practical experience and progress your career within Local Government. Most importantly, you will have a positive 'can do' attitude, posses strong organisational/administrative skills and be comfortable working with or without supervision. You will be a high achiever and will demonstrate the following:
- Enrolled in (or recently completed) a tertiary course to obtain qualifications as a Building Surveyor or one of the approved qualifications as contained in Schedule 2 of the “Building and Development Certifiers Regulation”.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
- Ability to be effective within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills including report writing skills.
- Demonstrated time management skills and the ability to manage competing demands.
- Computer literacy including experience in the use of databases.
- Current Class C drivers licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of the role of local government in the enforcement of planning and environmental legislation.
- Understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC).
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
- Understanding of the construction industry and the responsibilities of the certifier.
