Works General Hand (Ref: 1277, 1281 & 1287)
About the position:
The Works General Hand undertakes operational activities associated with the provision of road and drainage services to the City of Greater Geraldton. This position works under general direction to ensure all work is carried out within agreed programs and budget constraints and in compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations, City policies, procedures and Australian standards.
This position works a 9 day fortnight with every second Friday as a non-working day.
Key accountabilities:
- Participate in hazard identification and controls through the development of specific JHA and ensuring team accountability. Promote safe work practices and environment through leading by example.
- Maintain the City’s sealed roads and drainage systems assets through undertaking various maintenance activities.
- Perform routine manual labour duties, including but not limited to shovelling, cutting and picking of asphalt, filling of potholes, and trench restoration.
- General operation of plant, in a competent and safe manner including skid steer, loader and other machinery as required.
- General use of hand tools in a competent and safe manner to carry out maintenance and/or labour duties as required.

Position requirements:
The successful applicant will ideally hold an HR licence and have demonstrated experience in the safe use of plant and equipment associated with road and drainage maintenance. Furthermore, previous experience working with asphalt and chip sealing will be highly regarded.
Applicants with limited knowledge, skills and experience in road maintenance or drainage construction are welcome to apply.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration and benefits:
A salary starting from $76,072 per annum or $38.4981 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
