The Role
An exciting opportunity exists to work
in a leadership role fostering a culture of continuous improvement, high
performance and strategic thinking. The primary purpose of this position is to
lead and coordinate the Compliance Team to ensure that all reports of unlawful
activity in relation building, development and environmental compliance are
investigated and breaches of legislation are enforced.
This is a unique role that offers diversity
and variety. The day to day will include site inspections, case management of
complex investigations, training, mentoring and guiding staff and developing
and delivering process improvement projects and enforcement programs to address
contemporary compliance issues.
Reporting to the Regulatory Services
Manager, the Environmental Compliance Coordinator will work closely with
like-minded leaders and professionals including the Environmental Health
Coordinator and Coordinator Animal Services and Community Safety, as well as
the wider City Planning Leadership team.
About You
You will have proven, practical experience as an investigator in
Local Government, with extensive experience and knowledge of NSW legislation including the Protection of
the Environment Operations Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act,
Local Government Act, Contaminated Land Management Act, Food Act and Public
Health Act.
Ideally, you will have experience in a supervisory role, having
led high performing teams to successfully complete programs, projects and
achieve compliance outcomes.
To be the successful candidate, you must be a highly motivated person,
with excellent time management and organisational skills.
You will have the ability to effectively communicate at all levels
within an organisation and foster, promote and drive a positive and inclusive
workplace culture.
Essential
Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications Building surveying,
Local Government investigations or a related regulatory or legal discipline
- Experience with, and knowledge of, NSW
legislation including the Protection of the Environment Operations Act,
Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Local Government Act, Contaminated
Land Management Act, Food Act and Public Health Act
- Extensive
demonstrated experience in development compliance, building compliance;
environmental investigations or related field
- Demonstrated
experience in a leadership role with the ability to coach and mentor a high
performing team focused on strong customer service
- The right to live and work in Australia
- Class C Drivers Licence
- Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Successful applicants will be required to
undergo background (police) checks and medical declaration
Desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in
Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Law (Local Government), Town
Planning or the like, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Project management
skills and ability to plan, prioritise and co-ordinate activities.
