Primary purpose of the role
The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct tree assessments on development site, carry out inspections on private and public trees, promote the benefits of trees in an urban environment, laisse and communicate effectively with members of the public, and to provide expert knowledge on the management of trees in the community.
About the role
Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:
- Carry out the assessment of tree health and condition to make decisions regarding maintenance and/or management of trees in line with Council policy, legislative and compliance requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive tree assessments to support the management and preservation of trees within the Bayside LGA.
- Provide subject matter expertise to assist the Coordinator in delivering the maintenance program of public trees.
- Manage tree applications for permits to consider the pruning or removal of trees on private property in line with tree management best practices and Council policies.
- Manage and assess trees for development and driveway applications to assist in the outcomes of tree management.
- Assess trees relating to footpaths and open space areas, to assist with decision making and responses in regard to outcomes.
- Investigate and collate information on matters that involve breaches of Council’s Tree Preservation Order or liability issues for Council.
- Prepare expertise reports that may be presented in court for any legal action instituted by Council.
- Assess and report on trees associated with claims.
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant safety and environmental regulations, policies and legislation.
- Respond to customer and key stakeholder enquiries regarding tree management best practices in line with Council policies.
- Provide detailed assessments and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide regular reports to enable the Coordinator to address identified risks in service delivery.
- Assist the Coordinator and Manager with expert knowledge relating to tree preservation.
- Implement Council’s policies, including the management of vandalised, poisoned, or illegally removed trees.
- Assist Council teams with tree management services to allow the delivery of Capital Works projects.
- Promote a positive and collaborative culture that is values driven through open, fair and transparent decision making and communication.
- Assist the Coordinator and Manager to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.
- Undertake hands on, active pruning and removing of trees when needed.
- Promote tree health, urban forest outcomes, and sustainable practices.
About you:
We are looking for someone who has the following qualifications, experience and expertise:
Essential:
- Minimum AQF Level 3 Arboriculture Certificate and two years relevant work experience.
- Working knowledge of public risk issues associated with trees.
- A SafeWork NSW White Card (General Construction Induction card).
- Current Driver’s Licence Class C.

Salary Range: From $84,397 - $94,524 per year plus 12% superannuation
