As a member of the Strategic Planning team you’ll play a key role in delivering Blueprint 100 – Council’s Strategic Plan for our growing region. You’ll help guide sustainable land use, enhance liveability, and engage with the community to bring our shared vision to life.
You’re an enthusiastic team player who enjoys tackling complex planning challenges, partnering across teams, and engaging with stakeholders to create meaningful, lasting change. You’ll bring strong analytical, communication, and project management skills, along with an understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and related legislation.
The Strategic Planner is responsible for:
- Developing and implementing strategic planning policies, plans and initiatives that support Council’s long-term vision (Blueprint 100).
- Assessing and coordinating planning proposals, including complex or sensitive strategic matters.
- Engaging effectively with the development industry, state government agencies, investors, residents and the broader community.
- Providing high-quality customer service and clear communication to support understanding of planning processes and outcomes.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment by managing workload, maintaining safe work practices and supporting shared project goals.
The Senior Strategic Planner is responsible for:
- Leading the development, coordination and delivery of strategic planning policies, plans and projects aligned with Council’s long-term vision (Blueprint 100).
- Overseeing assessment and determination of complex and controversial planning proposals, providing expert advice and sound strategic judgement.
- Driving high-level engagement and relationship-building with Councillors, state government agencies, the development industry, investors and the community.
- Guiding and mentoring junior team members while ensuring effective workload management, legislative compliance and robust decision-making across the team.
- Managing financial and budgetary requirements, including development contributions planning, while maintaining high standards of customer service and workplace safety.
What You’ll Need
- 4 year Degree in Urban and Regional Planning OR Urbanism OR Urban Planning and Design OR
- 3 year Degree and Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate in Planning.
- NSW Driver Licence.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively.
- Experience with planning proposals and strategic planning (desirable).
A Diploma in Urban Planning or a related discipline is desirable. However, extensive relevant experience may also be considered. Recent planning graduates, current students, cadets and experienced planners are all encouraged to apply. Experience in regional NSW planning will be highly regarded. Relevant qualifications in Environment, Economics, Geography, Natural Resources, Architecture and Design, Communication, Heritage or Social Science may also be considered.

Salary range: Grade 16 - 17 - $93, 519.65 - $106,199.05 per annum plus superannuation for a 35 hour work week. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.
Please note: Due to the Christmas shutdown Council offices will be closed from Wednesday 24 December 2025 - Monday 5 January 2026.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
