Trainee Irrigation Maintainer

The City is thrilled to announce that we are expanding our Traineeship Program we’re now recruiting for a Trainee Irrigation Maintainer to join our dynamic Parks and Environment team!
As a trainee, you’ll be provided with the support, supervision and training to assist the crew in monitoring and maintaining Irrigation systems across the City. Reporting to the Supervisor Irrigation, you’ll gain hands-on experience in all aspects of Irrigation systems while learning the ropes both on the job and completing
a Certificate III in Irrigation Technology through Irrigation Australia.

In this role, you will undertake duties under supervision and assist the crew to:
- Install, inspect, test and maintain irrigation systems
- Diagnose and repair irrigation faults and breakages
- Carry out repairs including valve replacements, pipe repairs, irrigation wiring, solenoids, and water system connections
- Assist with irrigation programming, calibration and interpretation of irrigation plans
- Operate and maintain plant and equipment such as vehicles, excavators and trenching equipment
- Maintain safe, clean and tidy work sites
- Attend and complete all required TAFE training and assessments
- Work across various irrigation environments and undertake secondments within Parks and Environment as required
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and safety requirements
- Attend all lectures and meet assignment deadlines.
Criteria for the role
- A genuine interest in Irrigation, Water or Amenity Horticulture
- Completion of Year 10, 11 or 12 with acceptable results
- Satisfactory National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
- Sound verbal and interpersonal communication skills, good hands-on technical aptitude and be able demonstrate standard language, literacy and numeracy skills.
- Enjoy working in a team setting and have a good aptitude for learning and an excellent work ethic.
