The Opportunity:

NIAA has APS5 and APS6 opportunities within the Grants Management Unit (GMU) in a range of NIAA office locations throughout Australia. The GMU is seeking applicants to fill current and anticipated vacancies and to create a merit pool for future vacancies.

We will hold a virtual information session via MS Teams prior to the closing date. We will go through ‘a day in the life of a Grant Agreement Manager.’ The session will be interactive and allow you to ask questions about the role and the Agency. The APS5 and ASP6 roles include the following duties and are expected to be conducted with a broad degree of self-direction:

• oversee and manage agreements with varying levels of complexity and identify potential risks to relevant internal stakeholders when appropriate

• draft new funding agreements and variations to existing agreements

• undertake assessments of performance reports and financial acquittals

• apply sound judgement and make evidence-based decisions aligned to the operating environment and legislative frameworks

• guide others to identify and mitigate foreseeable risks

• engage with internal stakeholders (Regional Offices, Program and Policy Areas) and external stakeholders (grantees) regarding the management of grant agreements

• assist to plan and coordinate team workflow to ensure even distribution and management of priorities

• contribute to monitoring and reporting on team deliverables ensuring quality is maintained

• undertake reviews using internal quality assurance and continuous improvement processes

• identify opportunities to enhance team performance in an environment of collaboration, continuous improvement and change

• possess (or have the ability to acquire and develop) in-depth knowledge of grant agreement management and the associated legislation.

For the APS6 role the additional duties apply:

• provide leadership and supervision to achieve outcomes for NIAA stakeholders, grantees and partners in line with operational requirements

• supervise, support and develop staff.

Our Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal candidates are passionate about understanding the key issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Applicants will need to demonstrate cultural competency, including:

• good understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, cultures and history (ideally with direct experience working with Indigenous stakeholders)

• understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples

• ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples

• willingness and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency

Other required competencies include:

• high level analytical, research and problem-solving skills

• ability to identify emerging opportunities or issues, and respond quickly to competing priorities as they emerge

• sound judgement and the capacity to work flexibly and responsively to achieve results.

· To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.

· The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.

· The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
