Your Position:
The City Strategy Directorate shapes a better urban future
by designing active, high‑quality and safe places for everyone. We create the
long‑term roadmap for coordinated, sustainable growth and deliver effective
urban management systems that strengthen the city’s resilience, liveability and
economic vitality.
This role supports our City Strategy and Council business units
by delivering high‑quality built‑form and urban design outcomes while providing
expert guidance across the NSW Planning System. It involves assessing
development matters, advising panels, contributing to strategic planning,
engaging stakeholders, and collaborating across teams to advance Council’s
vision of City Excellence.
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Shape the future of Burwood by leading high‑impact
development assessments and providing expert guidance on everything from major
development applications to strategic land‑use planning, place‑making and urban
management.
- Be a trusted advisor and voice of expertise,
working closely with Planning Panels, Design Review Panels and internal teams
to influence masterplans, planning proposals, development controls and high‑quality
built‑form outcomes.
- Tell the story behind great planning decisions
through clear, compelling reports, insightful research and confident
representation at stakeholder forums and (when required) as an expert witness
in the Land and Environment Court.
- Build strong partnerships across Council,
government agencies and the community, delivering exceptional customer service
and helping drive education, engagement and awareness initiatives that support
a thriving, well‑designed urban environment.
- Lead with professionalism, curiosity and
integrity, managing projects to a high standard, embracing continuous learning,
supporting WHS and corporate planning initiatives.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Tertiary
qualification in Town Planning and working experience as a Development
Assessment Planner
- Hold a current NSW Drivers Licence and NSW White Card/General construction Induction Card
- Ability
to communicate effectively and sensitively, whilst developing working
relationships with all stakeholders
- Knowledge
and ability to develop and implement high quality and effective education
and stakeholder engagement strategies
- Excellent
written and oral communication skills
- Ability
to represent Council in public forums in a professional and knowledgeable
manner
- Good
research, analytical, time & project management skills
- Availability
to work out of hours and on weekends as required
- Willingness
to complete pre-employment checks including a pre-employment medical and
police check
