The opportunity
Do you have a keen eye for detail and a passion for the mechanics of local government? Federation Council is seeking a dedicated Governance Support Officer to provide high level administrative and process support to our Governance Officer. In this role, you play an important role of in the delivery of Governance and support services in compliance with Council standards, regulations and legislation. In this role you will, but not limited to:
- Assist in managing core functions including Section 355 Committees, legislative compliance, policy reviews, and internal audits.
- Support processes for privacy, open access, and Government Information Public Access (GIPA) requests.
- Help implement Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) framework to ensure legal compliance.
- Daily use of Pulse software to track reporting, corporate policies, and staff delegations.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with internal staff and external partners through clear communication.
- Coordinate the rollout of governance policies across Council via the intranet, newsletters, staff inductions, and information sessions.
- Attend and participate in relevant forums and meetings
- Use Excel, Word, and Council systems to manage records, process purchase orders, and prepare statistical reports for the community and Government departments.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- Qualifications relevant to the role is highly desirable and / or can demonstrate substantial relevant work experience
- Ability to identify and interpret relevant legislation and knowledge of statutory requirements of various acts and regulations relevant to the position
- Demonstrated high level of organisational and planning skills with capacity to show initiative in developing new ideas and approaches, and to implement and communicate change effectively
- Advanced user of a range of software packages such as, Excel, MS Word, Email systems, Internet searching and Records Management systems such as Content Manager including ability to produce reports
- Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively including an ability to show understanding and patience in communicating a diverse range of individuals

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $36.38 per hour with progression up to $40.16 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
