The AIHW is creating a new First Nations Priority Reforms Unit and we are seeking an experienced or inspiring leader to lead the new unit. You will be involved in designing the remit of the unit and recruiting staff for the unit. You will report directly to the Executive Director of the Community and First Nations Insights Division (SES B2), to reflect the importance of the role and its cross-organisation significance.
The AIHW Board and CEO are committed to ensuring the AIHW is recognised by First Nations people and organisations as an exemplary partner organisation.
The scope of the unit is still evolving but is likely to include:
- Supporting the development and implementation of a Closing the Gap Priority Reforms Implementation Plan for AIHW.
- Supporting and monitoring the implementation of the Governance of Indigenous Data Implementation Plan.
- Creating governance to monitor and enable accountability from our senior executives and staff for their work towards achieving the Priority Reforms.
- Providing advice and support to staff in relation to the Priority Reforms and First Nations matters.
- Providing support to the First Nations Governance Group, a group of senior and independent First Nations peoples who provide advice and direction to the Institute. This role will include monitoring progress on directions from the group, such as the potential focus areas it has identified. These focus areas include data gaps in the social services sector, prioritising the social determinants of health, and exploring opportunities to incorporate qualitative data to better capture the impact of connection and prevention within community services.
Through this unit it is envisaged that we will have the governance, resourcing and accountability to further drive the scope and the ambition of AIHW against the framework of the Priority Reforms, and to ensure our work contributes to the health and wellbeing of First Nations people as effectively and appropriately as possible.
This role will allow you to empower communities through improving access to data, increasing data skills and capabilities, and having their voices heard in how the AIHW manages and reports health and welfare data about them.
