Biosecurity Officer - Weeds

About the opportunity:
Wollondilly Shire Council have an exciting and rare opportunity available for an experienced Biosecurity Officer in Weeds to join our Waste and Environmental Services team on a temporary full-time basis.
In this role, you will help protect and enhance our local environment through proactive weed management, compliance, education, and land stewardship initiatives. As a key member of Council, you will respond to community enquiries, deliver statutory responsibilities as an Authorised Officer, implement priority weed programs under the Biosecurity Act 2015, and work closely with agencies such as Greater Sydney Local Land Services and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional with strong communication skills, sound legislative knowledge, and confidence using technology and GIS systems to make a real difference across public and private land.
To succeed in this position, you will meet the following criteria:
- Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management, Agriculture, or equivalent
- Minimum three (3) years relevant work experience in Bush Regeneration, Horticulture or a relevant field.
- Current Class C Drivers Licence
- Chemical Handling Certificate training (AQF3)
- Sound knowledge of the Biosecurity Act 2015.
- Sound knowledge in the identification of weeds and weed management practices.
- Ability to understand and implement legislative requirements as they relate to environmental and biosecurity matters.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver projects within budget and reporting timeframes to internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide high level customer service to internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to communicate, influence and negotiate effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team.
