The Opportunity
As the Employee and Industrial Relations Manager at the City of Perth, you will hold a critical leadership role within the People and Culture function, shaping the organisation’s employee and industrial relations strategy and ensuring alignment with the City’s strategic direction.
Reporting to the Chief People and Culture Officer, you will lead the development and execution of contemporary ER/IR frameworks, oversee industrial agreement negotiations, and provide expert advice on complex employee relations and organisational matters. This role also plays a key part in strengthening organisational capability through effective policy, remuneration frameworks, and resolution of high-risk and complex people issues.
Your responsibilities will primarily include:
- Leading the negotiation, implementation and governance of Industrial Agreements, including strategic engagement with unions and key stakeholders;
- Developing and driving the City’s ER/IR strategy, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and organisational priorities;
- Providing authoritative advice on industrial instruments, employment legislation, and complex employee relations and workforce matters; and
- Leading the management of complex casework, workplace investigations and dispute resolution, including representation in external jurisdictions where required.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong blend of strategic leadership, technical expertise and stakeholder influence, including:
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Business or a related discipline;
- Significant experience in employee relations, industrial relations or employment law within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment;
- Demonstrated success leading industrial negotiations, managing high-risk ER/IR matters, and influencing senior stakeholders; and
- Highly developed analytical, advisory and communication skills, with the ability to navigate complexity and provide clear, defensible guidance at an executive level.
