The Opportunity
Federation Council is seeking a motivated Assistant Depot Officer to join our Engineering Department in Corowa. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the Depot Coordinator with day-to-day operations and procurement functions.
As the Assistant Depot Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring our depots and stores run smoothly and meet all legislative requirements. This is a hands-on position that involves everything from technical procurement to physical yard maintenance. We are looking for a collaborative team player who can communicate effectively with both internal staff and the general public.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operating forklifts to load/unload goods and coordinating deliveries to various worksites.
- Handling purchase orders, managing staff PPE and uniform inventory, and providing purchasing support to other departments.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the yard and Wash Bay areas and monitoring stocks for items like gravel, aggregate, and fuel.
- Conducting monthly stocktakes, maintaining first aid kits, and ensuring all operations align with Council policies and WHS standards.
- Stepping up to perform higher duties when the Depot Coordinator is on leave.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- A current Class “C” driver’s licence and a valid Forklift licence (or the ability to obtain one within three months).
- Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with digital records management (e.g., Content Manager) and purchasing systems.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- A history of showing initiative to improve productivity and solve problems effectively.
Desirable Attributes
- Previous experience in Local Government or a similar operational role.
- Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $34.35 per hour with progression up to $37.91 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
