LET’S EXPLORE THE JOB
As a General Works Assistant in our Main Roads vegetation maintenance crew, you’ll help maintain roadside and verge areas across the network through mowing, snipping/brushcutting and spraying, while also supporting general road and drainage maintenance as required.
You’ll work outdoors as part of a safety-first crew, operating tools and equipment to keep vegetation under control and sightlines clear, and to present a tidy roadside environment. You will also be required to:
- Undertake a broad range of tasks associated with the construction and maintenance of roads, drainage, parks, buildings, including but not limited to mowing, landscaping maintenance, , traffic control, road signage, graffiti removal, etc.
- Operate small items of plant in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Work with minimal supervision to carry out a broad range of tasks associated with construction and maintenance functions.
- Ensure that works are undertaken in an environmentally responsible manner under direction.

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU
You’re reliable, practical and safety-focused, with experience using tools, minor plant and equipment on civil or maintenance worksites. You take direction, work well in a crew, and you’re also confident working with minimal supervision to get the job done to a high standard. You must also meet the following essential requirements:
- Current SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction Card (White Card) (or equivalent recognised in NSW)
- Minimum current Class C driver’s licence
- Demonstrated commitment to safety (compliance and on-site behaviour)
- Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment
- Experience using minor plant and equipment and performing a range of outdoor maintenance tasks
- Highly desirable:LR licence or above; ChemCert (or equivalent) for herbicide application; experience operating tractors and similar plant; and experience working on live roads with traffic control.
