Ventia is seeking a Surfacing Project Manager to join our Transport Infrastructure team in Wellington, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of capital works on the Transmission Gully motorway—a 24/7 operational environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Project Manager for Surfacing, you’ll take the lead on delivering high-quality surfacing and capital works packages across the Transmission Gully network. Your focus will be safety, client outcomes, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead planning, pricing, and safe delivery of capital works packages on the Transmission Gully network
- Manage subcontractors, ensure compliance with safety systems (VenSafe, VisRes), and support incident response
- Collaborate with NZTA and internal teams to ensure high-quality outcomes and strong client relationships
- Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement across project delivery
- Promote a strong and safety culture through leadership, induction, toolboxes, and SHEQ compliance
ABOUT YOU
You’re a hands-on leader with a sharp eye for quality and safety, ready to make your mark on a critical transport asset.
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive experience in surfacing/asphalting – you know your way around civil construction
- Proven experience leading capital works or maintenance projects
- Confident in working with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
- Strong verbal and written English communication
- Solid IT skills – MS Suite, SharePoint and other project tools
Qualifications
- Class 1 driver’s licence
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering (BE/NZCE or equivalent)
- STMS inspector (or working towards it)
