Job Summary
Job Description
As a Tax Manager – Employment and Other Taxes, you play a pivotal role in the provision of tax advice to support commercial decision making for Telstra and ensure compliance with Telstra’s tax obligations. You enjoy working independently as well as part of a team, to review and deliver thorough tax strategies, tax compliance, tax audits and other tax related matters across the business.
You leverage your strong expertise in Australian tax law to contribute to compliance and strategy and planning activities for mergers, acquisitions, divestment proposals, business cases and other important projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Responsible for advisory and governance related to employment taxes, including fringe benefits tax, superannuation, pay-as-you-go withholding and payroll tax
- Responsible for annual tax compliance program related to fringe benefits tax including returns and payments
- Potential for ad hoc work in respect of other tax areas, including income tax and GST
- Leverage strong interpersonal skills to authentically engage and effectively influence cross-functional stakeholders to drive and deliver effective outcomes consistent with Telstra’s tax management objectives
- Liaise with relevant Australian tax authorities and specialist legal and tax advisers, contributing to the review of tax audits, tax policies and strategies
- Leverage your deep taxation knowledge and expertise to review and make recommendations to minimise tax audit exposure and tax audit penalties, and achieve favourable interpretations and rulings
- Apply your analytical skills to research technical tax issues, examine complex fact patterns, identify tax issues, and design and support defensible tax positions
- Model best practice approaches when performing tax reviews and delivering tax advice, to support peers and team members to continually improve technical skills and deliver consistently high quality output
- Apply your impressive problem-solving abilities to evaluate and assess tax issues or risks, and work collaboratively with team members to create effective business solutions that improve compliance and support defensible tax positions
- Significantly contribute to continuous improvement initiatives which deliver tax effective advice and solutions for major business initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, projects and other transactions, ensuring optimised tax outcomes for Telstra
To be successful in the role, you are someone with:
- Strong Employment Tax Advisory experience (required) and Corporate Taxation Advisory (desirable)
- Strong experience in management of tax compliance deliverables, particularly fringe benefits tax
- Degree in Accounting with CA, CPA or CIA
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work autonomously and take accountability for responsibility areas
- Proven experience of working in a high performing team of professionals
- Clear thinking/analytical skills
