The opportunity
In this pivotal role, you won't just be operating plant and equipment; you'll be the hands-on force behind building and maintaining a safe, reliable road network that connects the wider Urana community. In this role you will:
- Provide labour and plant operating skills to construct, maintain and repair Council civil infrastructure;
- Check and install roadside furnishings e.g., signs, guideposts, guardrails, fencing etc.;
- Ensure the servicing and tidiness of Council plant and equipment and the timely reporting of any defects;
- Accurately complete documentation associated with plant and equipment operation including a pre-start safety checklist;
- Accurately record accomplishments on timesheets, plant sheets and daily running sheets;
- Traffic Control Management duties as required;
- Report any observed faults or defects to any Council assets to the Leading Hand or Team Leader as soon as reasonably possible;
- Ensure allocated plant performs to expected capacity to allow timely completion of Works Programs;
- Operate all plant, tools, implements or equipment in a safe and effective manner;
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with appropriate protective clothing;
- Team player participating in work related activities, to contribute to personal and departmental wellbeing;
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- Hold a current and valid Medium Rigid (MR) Licence.
- Hold certificates of competency to operate a variety of plant such as skid steer, excavator, loader etc.
- Hold a General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
- Demonstrated relevant experience working in a construction environment or similar.
- General knowledge of servicing and maintenance of various plant to ensure they are in a clean and operational condition.
- Show initiative in solving problems, improving methods and productivity along with the ability to seek guidance and advice where required.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $1,153.70 per week with progression up to $1,337.90 per week dependent upon skills and experience.
