The Role
We are offering a unique opportunity for an aspiring town planner to begin their career through our Trainee Town Planner program. This two-year fixed-term position provides a solid foundation in statutory planning, development systems, and customer service. You'll receive on-the-job mentoring and training while contributing to real-world development projects that shape our city.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Provide planning and development advice through Council’s Duty Planner and pre-lodgement services
Assist with assessing development proposals and related applications
Support customers via counter, phone, and email interactions
Ensure applications meet legislative requirements
Prepare reports, memorandums, and correspondence on development matters
Undertake site inspections and coordinate feedback from internal and external stakeholders
Meet Council deadlines and statutory timeframes
Carry out other tasks as directed by the Team Leader or Manager

You will have:
Enrolment in a tertiary course leading to a qualification in town planning or a related discipline
Strong interest in development assessment and statutory planning
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Basic understanding of relevant planning legislation and regulations
Commitment to continuous learning and a proactive work ethic
Class C Driver’s Licence
The salary for this opportunity begins at $43,024 (T04 Grade) plus 12% super.
