Your New Role:
Reporting directly to the Director Corporate and Commercial, this senior leadership position is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to the Governance and Information Services team. The role ensures the delivery of integrated, efficient, and effective services and advice in the areas of governance, information management, and supporting technologies across the organisation.
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the incumbent is expected to actively contribute to strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and the overall leadership and performance of the Council. The role fosters a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within their team and across the broader organisation.
The position oversees the following core functions:
- Governance - Provision of internal governance advice, corporate compliance, and support for transparent and accountable decision-making processes.
- Information Management - Oversight of records management systems and frameworks that ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility.
- ·Information Technology (IT) - Strategic direction and operational management of the Council's IT infrastructure, systems, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Procurement - Ensuring best-practice procurement policies and processes that are compliant, ethical, and support value-for-money outcomes.
- Geospatial Information Services (GIS) - Management of spatial data and systems to support planning, operations, and decision-making across Council.
Key Accountabilities of the role :
- Design and deliver services in accordance with Council’s corporate planning framework
- Ensure Kempsey Shire Council consistently provides responsive governance and ICT services
- Support Kempsey Shire Council as a high-performance organisation
- Support leaders across Council to appropriately apply Governance policies, practices and standards
- rovide leadership and management to the Governance and Information Services group

About You:
As the successful candidate you will possess:
- Relevant degree/s or extensive work experience relevant to the role.
- Demonstrated senior leadership in multi-disciplinary environments, with strong financial and budget management capabilities.
- Extensive experience in governance frameworks, legislative compliance (including the Local Government Act and GIPA Act), and risk management.
- ·Proven expertise in corporate information governance, including records and spatial data management, policy development, and access to information processes.
- Strong understanding of ICT systems, digital transformation strategies, and procurement practices, including contract management and alignment with business planning.
- Background in local government or public sector governance roles.
