About the role
The Future Energy Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in strategic planning and forecasting the fastest growing network in NSW. As a Future Energy Planning Engineer this role is responsible for system planning, assessing new connections, power systems modelling, forecasting and shaping the tools and processes for the next generation of planning.
In a landscape with increasing PV, EVCI, batteries, electrification and large-scale loads and generation across all parts of the network, this role supports the energy transition, while also contributing to the growth of Western Sydney, the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Blue Mountains.
Key accountabilities
- Plan and optimise the distribution network to meet growing CER penetration, demand and high-volume generation connections.
- Recommend innovative, cost-effective investment strategies in collaboration with design, delivery, and connections teams.
- Develop forecasts and models to guide long-term planning, decarbonisation, and emerging energy technologies.
- Build strong relationships with customers, developers, and market stakeholders to anticipate and address evolving network needs.
- Drive advanced planning tools, scenario modelling, and core planning products to enable agile, data-driven investment decisions.

You confidently operate in uncertain, fast-paced environments, balancing diverse stakeholder needs while providing clear, technically sound guidance that shapes the future of the energy network.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering
- Undergraduate in electrical or computer science fields ideal.
Skills and experience
You have an electrical engineering background with strong knowledge of power systems, distribution networks, and emerging technologies like renewables, storage, and EVs, paired with hands-on experience running feasibility studies and load flows using PowerFactory or similar tools. You are highly analytical, with a proven ability to scrutinise, improve, and streamline complex processes for effective, practical outcomes.
