This is a role at the pointy end of the market transition, with an opportunity to directly influence the development and delivery of utility scale storage assets.
The team
This is a new and exciting permanent opportunity to join the Grid & Power Systems team within the wholesale Trading & Transition business unit. You will work with a passionate and collaborative team who are focussed on the National Electricity Market transitioning to a low emissions grid with high levels of renewable energy and storage.
About the role
This is a critical role that will fundamentally drive the successful development and delivery of utility scale storage projects (>$500m) as EnergyAustralia actively transitions its portfolio within an evolving high renewable and low emissions NEM.
Whilst directly reporting to the Head of Grid & Power Systems in the Trading & Transition business unit, the role will support two key projects – one project in the approval stage pre-FID, and the other in the execution delivery stage.
The role will be directly accountable for providing exemplary project and stakeholder management capability coupled with technical and commercial expertise, and specialist knowledge to manage the full end to end grid connection process - from project conception through to investment approvals and into project completion and operations - so from R0 to R1, to Registration and R2 testing and commissioning.
Key functions include:
- Commercial contract negotiation
- Risk, schedule and resource management
- Grid connection process management
- Connection studies and technical expertise
- Financial modelling supporting project optimisation.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring a dedication to process and completing things. Furthermore, you bring curiosity, problem solving, technical expertise and energy industry knowledge in particularly in project delivery, stakeholder management, generator performance standards, and power system modelling. You’ll have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering or another relevant quantitative discipline
- Highly effective communication skills to liaise with internal and external customers and strong negotiation and influencing skills – you will be able to easily talk across all technical, commercial, legal and regulatory aspects of grid connections
- Experience in power system modelling and its interpretation (for example PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory) and analysis for grid connections, including steady state load flows studies, fault level studies, harmonics, dynamic/transient stability studies, etc
- Experience with storage technologies is advantageous, including performance characteristics of grid forming and grid following inverters
