About the role:
Our City Assets Team are seeking an experienced Design Engineer where you will lead the investigation, design and planning of civil infrastructure and flood projects that shape resilient roads, open spaces and stormwater assets for our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design civil infrastructure including roads, footpaths, stormwater, open space and traffic facilities.
- Prepare cost estimates and project documentation for capital works and public domain projects.
- Investigate, model and analyse stormwater systems and support flood studies and risk management planning.
- Support strategic asset management through data collection, condition assessment and prioritisation of works.
- Assess asset defects and recommend maintenance and rehabilitation solutions.
- Provide technical advice and collaborate with stakeholders across Council, government agencies and consultants.
- Review development and stormwater applications and contribute to policy and code updates.
- Manage consultants and oversee project delivery, ensuring safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Prepare reports, briefings and general correspondence to support project and operational needs.
- Assist multidisciplinary teams with survey, design and delivery of capital works.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering along with a current Class C motor vehicle licence is essential
- Strong civil design expertise across roads and stormwater, including investigation, survey, estimation and documentation.
- Hands‑on stormwater and catchment management experience, supported by confident use of survey equipment.
- Proficiency in CAD and hydraulic modelling tools such as CivilCad, AutoCAD, DRAINS and HEC‑RAS.
- Solid knowledge of Australian road and drainage standards and experience delivering complex civil projects.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder skills, with strengths in problem‑solving and negotiation.
- Experience assessing Development Applications and processing construction‑related permits.
- A proven ability to meet targets, work efficiently and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
- A collaborative, self‑motivated approach, with a commitment to staying current with emerging technologies.
- Desirable: Understanding of local government processes and experience with asset management systems.
