Advance Our Safe and Caring Culture
UPA has made significant progress in workplace safety over the past two years, including transforming our injury management practices, rolling out Protecht as our safety event management system, and developing our Workplace Safety and Workers' Compensation Strategic Framework 2025–2027. We're now ready for the next phase.
This is a genuine opportunity to shape how workplace safety evolves at UPA. You'll lead the modernisation of our WHS management system, developing contemporary policies, fit-for-purpose audit tools, and governance frameworks that support our commitment to a safe and caring culture for our workforce. With executive support and a clear 18–24 month roadmap, you'll build on existing foundations to create systems that can scale across our residential aged care, home care, and retirement living services.
We understand that protecting our people is fundamental to delivering quality care. If you're an aspirational safety professional ready to take established foundations to the next level, this is your opportunity.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the modernisation of UPA's WHS management system, developing contemporary policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
- Continue embedding Protecht as UPA's safety event management system and contribute to its ongoing development as the WHS subject matter expert
- Support and lead safety investigations, including structured root cause analysis on serious events, working collaboratively with the Workers' Compensation function
- Develop WHS reporting and dashboards to identify trends, inform decision-making, and track performance against strategic objectives
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on incident data, audit findings, and consultation feedback
- Design and implement fit-for-purpose environmental audit tools and workplace inspection regimes across diverse service environments
- Support UPA's safe and caring culture by partnering with leaders and workers to embed safe work practices and build WHS confidence at all levels
- Address psychosocial risks including occupational violence, fatigue, and exposure to distressing situations in aged care settings
What You'll Bring
Essential
- Minimum 5 years' experience in workplace health and safety with exposure to policy development, risk management, and compliance.
- Relevant WHS qualification (Diploma or higher) or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation, including PCBU duties, consultation requirements, and Codes of Practice.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and developing effective corrective actions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience in Health & Community Services (particularly aged care).
- Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 45003, or ISO 31000 frameworks.
