Make a lasting impact by leading initiatives that promote sustainability and inspire community involvement in caring for Wollongong's natural areas and open spaces.
As the Environment Management Team Leader, you'll take charge of key programs such as Rise and Shine, Bushcare, and Clean Up Australia Day, while providing strategic leadership and planning support to the environmental programs team. In this role, you'll manage staff and volunteers, coordinate resources, and ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety standards-combining big-picture oversight with hands-on engagement to deliver meaningful environmental outcomes.
This is a permanent full-time position. Salary from $96,259.86 up to $111,173.43 per annum, plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). This role may include some on-call, weekend and over-time work, dependent on operational requirements.
Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.
What you will be doing
- Lead and supervise staff, volunteers, and contractors to deliver environmental programs and projects.
- Plan and manage community environmental initiatives, including scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.
- Develop project plans, seek grant opportunities, and prepare management reports.
- Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental, and risk management standards.
- Engage the community through programs that promote sustainability and active participation.
- Collaborate across teams and liaise with stakeholders to achieve Council's environmental goals.
About you
You're an experienced leader with a passion for sustainability and community engagement. You bring:
- A minimum Certificate III in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Science, Conservation, Community Services, Project Management).
- Considerable experience in planning and delivering environmental or community projects.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Proven ability to supervise staff and manage contractors effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships.
- A sound understanding of WHS principles and practices.
- A current Class C driver's licence.
- A Paid NSW Working With Children Check or willing to obtain
