About the role:The Operator – Waste Services and Quarries will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of plant and equipment across Council's essential waste disposal, landfill and quarry services. The role undertakes a broad range of operational duties including waste handling, site maintenance, vegetation control, road and infrastructure upkeep, material loading and movement, and routine plant and equipment maintenance activities.
The position requires avalid Heavy Rigid (HR) driver’s licenceand will operateheavy plant and vehicles including, but not limited to, garbage trucks, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, compactors, bulldozers, excavators, and tipper and trailer combinations.
Other essential requirements include a currentWHS Construction Induction Card (White Card), adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, and a commitment to providing quality public service and maintaining a positive image of the Council.
Heavy Combination (HC) driver's licence,forklift licence, andChemical Certification are not essential but will be highly regarded.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the role demands strong communication and teamwork skills, the ability to follow instructions, and a proactive approach to risk management. Workers are expected to support Council’s goals through collaborative efforts, upholding confidentiality, and being adaptable to evolving duties.

About you:The successful applicant will:
- be competent and experienced in operating heavy plant and equipment, including garbage trucks, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, compactors, bulldozers, excavators, and tipper trucks.
- possess the skills to carry out inspections, perform routine maintenance, and operate various plant and equipment safely and efficiently
- have a sound understanding of safety procedures and strong commitment to workplace health and safety, environmental standards, and the overall appearance and functionality of public spaces
- be willing and able to follow instructions, work within timeframes, and contribute effectively to a team
- have a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn and adapt
- understand the importance of public service and take pride in upholding the reputation of the Council and the community
- be reliable, respectful, team-oriented, and able to meet the physical and practical demands of the position.
