About the role
This is an outstanding opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Arborist who demonstrates pride in high-quality workmanship to join Bayside Council. The position delivers both planned and reactive arboricultural services, including machinery operation and associated traffic management, across Council’s parks and open space assets. The role also provides on-site leadership and guidance to operational staff to ensure all assigned works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
You can also expect to:
- Perform tree pruning, removals, and maintenance in accordance with Australian Standards and Council policies.
- Operate chainsaws, EWP, chippers, and specialist plant safely and competently.
- Assess on site tree condition, identify hazards, and implement appropriate safety controls.
- Respond to storm damage, emergencies, and reactive service requests.
- Lead small crews on site to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
- Allocate daily tasks and provide clear instructions to team members.
- Monitor work quality and compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
- Mentor and support less experienced staff.
- Implement WHS procedures, traffic management plans, and site risk assessments.
- Conduct pre-start checks, toolbox talks, and hazard identification.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and Council policies.
- Communicate professionally with residents and stakeholders on site.
- Provide clear explanations of works being undertaken and any access impacts.
- Represent Council in a courteous and accountable manner.
- Protect surrounding vegetation, infrastructure, and public assets during works.
- Promote tree health, urban forest outcomes, and sustainable practices.
About you
We are looking for someone who has the following background and expertise:
- Minimum Cert III in Arboriculture.
- In addition, you will also have relevant experience as an Arborist.
- A SafeWork NSW white card (general construction induction card).
- Current MR Licence as required.
Desirable
- Elevated Work Platform ticket – over 11 meters.
