About The Role..
Reporting to the Head of Payroll, you will lead the end‑to‑end payroll function and ensure the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services for all employees. You’ll oversee payroll operations, support and develop payroll team members, maintain system integrity, and ensure compliance with legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Leading and managing the full payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Overseeing payroll processing in line with service levels and quality standards
- Providing leadership, coaching, and performance management to payroll team members
- Managing payroll adjustments, reconciliations, reporting, and audit readiness
- Ensuring compliance with legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, and regulatory requirements
- Partnering with HR, Finance, and operational teams to resolve payroll matters
- Acting as the primary contact for external bodies such as the ATO, superannuation clearing houses, and payroll system vendors
- Maintaining and optimising payroll systems (including Dayforce and Emplive)
- Ensuring the security, confidentiality, and integrity of payroll data
- Identifying and implementing payroll process improvements
- Leading payroll audit activities and supporting payroll‑related projects, system upgrades, and process transformation initiatives
About You..
You’re an experienced payroll professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment. You bring strong operational knowledge, excellent leadership capability, and a commitment to accuracy and compliance. You’re proactive, organised, and confident in engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
You Will Also
- Demonstrate strong organisational and time‑management skills
- Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care
- Show initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement
- Quickly understand organisational payroll systems and processes
Essential
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in end‑to‑end payroll processing
- Experience in high‑volume payroll environments
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, and compliance
- Experience interpreting Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and employment contracts
- Proficiency with payroll and workforce management systems
- High attention to detail and strong data accuracy
- Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting skills
Desirable
- Hands‑on payroll experience in the care sector (e.g., hospitals, disability services)
- Experience using Dayforce and Emplive (highly regarded)
- Tertiary qualifications in Payroll, Accounting, Finance, HR, or related fields
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations or upgrades
