THE JOB
Council is seeking a skilled and qualified town planner to join our Planning and Regulatory Unit. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to the sustainable growth and development of the Snowy Valleys region through a diverse range of statutory and strategic planning responsibilities.
The position will work across a broad variety of development types and planning matters while engaging with community members, applicants, consultants, government agencies and internal stakeholders to deliver positive planning outcomes for the region.

Essential
- Degree qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience and capability.
- Demonstrated experience in development assessment and statutory planning within a local government or similar regulatory environment.
- Sound knowledge of the NSW planning framework, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, regulations and relevant environmental planning instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, assess complex planning matters and exercise professional judgement.
- Well-developed written communication, report writing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within required timeframes.
- Class C Driver Licence.
Desirable
- Experience in regional or rural local government planning environments.
- Experience preparing reports and recommendations for delegated determination and Council consideration.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and negotiation with applicants, consultants, government agencies and community members.

Snowy Valleys Council is a scenic and heritage rich local government area in the South-West Slopes region of New South Wales which spans 8959km

CONDITIONS
- Permanent, fulltime position working 70 hours per fortnight.
- Salary of $3,407.40 - $3,835.00 per fortnight based on qualifications skills and experience. Council is willing to negotiate the salary for this position with the right candidate.
