About the Role:
- Deliver the functions of Council’s liquid trade waste and backflow prevention program and the broader functions associated with protecting Council’s water and wastewater infrastructure
- Detect, investigate and undertake enforcement action (as authorised) under relevant legislation when required to support Council’s water and wastewater planning and compliance
- Contribute to the development and delivery of services and educational material related to water and wastewater liquid trade waste and backflow prevention programs, including facilitating training/seminars/field days, as a means of increasing public awareness of regulatory and compliance issues
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of administrative systems related to planning and compliance within the public health and environment team including policies, procedures, databases and the maintenance of effective record keeping protocols
- Provide support to Customer Service Officers and the public health and environment team by attending to enquiries and providing accurate advice to internal and external customers, promptly and professionally
- Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity
- Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
- Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions
About You:
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Certificate IV qualification or greater, Local Government (Regulatory Services), liquid trade waste and backflow prevention, environmental management or other related discipline with demonstrated experience in a similar role; or substantial contemporary experience in a customer focused delivery role with the proven ability to acquire the skills and knowledge mentioned
- Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in developing and implementing environmental reporting programs (inspection, enforcement and monitoring)
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant liquid trade waste, backflow prevention and environmental legislation standards and guidelines with the ability to ensure compliance including; Local Government Act 1993, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979
- Strong verbal, written and listening skills, with an ability to interpret and convey complex information in a clear, accurate and timely manner
- Demonstrated strong negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills
- Proven ability to develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve outcomes that contribute to the achievement of the organisation’s strategic goals
- High level of computer literacy with specific expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Geographical Information Systems
- NSW Construction Induction White Card
- Current Class C drivers’ licence
Desirable criteria:
- Experience working in the Local Government Sector
- Asbestos Identification certification
