About the Role
The Student Engagement Officer - Graduate Groups plays a key role in creating a vibrant, inclusive and connected graduate student community across the University of Melbourne.
Working closely with the Manager, Student Engagement, this role supports the development, growth and success of GSA's diverse Graduate Groups by empowering student leaders, fostering meaningful engagement opportunities, and strengthening connections between students and GSA.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with student leaders, staff and casual team members to develop and implement engagement and communication strategies that increase student participation, support the establishment of new Graduate Groups, and enhance the sustainability of existing groups. The role provides ongoing guidance, training and advice to Graduate Group committees, helping them deliver activities and initiatives that enrich the graduate student experience.
In addition to community engagement, the role is responsible for the administration of Graduate Groups, including affiliations and disaffiliations, governance support, event coordination, funding processes, communications, and management of the Graduate Groups online portal. The role also contributes to the planning and delivery of GSA-led events and initiatives throughout the year.
This is an exciting opportunity for an organised, proactive and relationship-focused professional who enjoys working with diverse communities, developing student leaders, and delivering engaging programs that make a genuine impact on the graduate student experience.
As Graduate Groups are largely student-led and many activities occur outside standard business hours, the role requires flexibility to undertake occasional evening and weekend work. There will also be occasional travel between University of Melbourne campuses to support events and engagement activities.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A degree or associate diploma qualification in a relevant discipline, such as community development, education, event management, communications, social sciences, or a related field.
- At least two years' experience in community engagement, student engagement, event management, or a similar role.
- Experience planning and delivering events, programs or initiatives, preferably within the higher education sector or in student, community, membership-based or not-for-profit organisations.
- Experience building positive relationships with diverse stakeholders and supporting volunteers, student leaders or committee members to achieve shared goals.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide guidance, advice and support to a diverse student community.
- Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and confidence using online systems, databases and digital engagement platforms.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive, welcoming and vibrant student community.
- Flexibility to undertake occasional evening and weekend work, and to travel between University of Melbourne campuses when required.
