Maitland City Council is a diverse and dynamic organisation in a rapidly growing LGA. We are going through an exciting period of change in our Environment and Sustainability team and have an opportunity for an experienced Sustainability Officer to bring their passion for sustainability to make a meaningful impact on our growing communities.
The Opportunity
Working within the City Planning directorate, the Sustainability Officer will provide effective and efficient service in areas of environmental protection and the implementation of sustainable practices. Our successful applicant will investigate, develop and implement programs and projects relevant to waste prevention, management and circular economy outcomes both for Council Operations and the Community.
This position has a leadership role in keeping up to date on environmental sustainability initiatives and ensuring they are aligned with the Maitland City Council Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Procurement Policy. Key tasks include working with internal stakeholders to develop specifications for procurement of fit for purpose materials with a high recycled material, and low carbon content.
You
We are seeking a passionate Environmental professional who is eager to make an impact and drive initiative opportunities within the sustainability waste and circular economy space. To be successful within this role, you will hold a degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering or an equivalent of relevant contemporary experience.
You will have demonstrated experience in the coordination and implementation of environmental sustainability projects, with a focus on waste prevention, management and circular economy outcomes. Your exceptional communication skills will assist in liaising with multiple internal stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes and will be pivotal in engaging with our diverse communities.
Additionally, you will have the proven ability to work productively as a member of the wider Environmental team and a strong demonstration of problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
Benefits
This temporary 12-month, full-time position, working 35 hours per week and has a salary range of $98,093 up to $108,883 per year based on demonstrated competencies + 12% p.a. super.
