The opportunity

Come be a part of the Federation Council team and help us keep our community beautiful! We are looking for an experienced
Horticulturist/Gardener to join our supportive and friendly team, working to maintain the vibrant recreation and open spaces across the Council.
In this hands-on role, you'll work with a team to maintain a variety of community areas, from sports fields and parks to playgrounds and cemeteries. Your day-to-day work will include a wide range of tasks, such as:
- Working as part of a team you will be maintaining the following: Sporting ovals, parks and gardens, arboriculture, playgrounds, cemeteries and open spaces.
- Operating and maintaining gardening equipment and machinery.
- Ensuring all Council presentation areas—including streetscapes, landscapes, and wetlands—are maintained to a high standard.
- Completing necessary documentation related to your work and equipment operation.

Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications:
- Hold a minimum Horticulture Certificate III or currently completing certificate.
- Hold an AQ3 level chemical usage qualification such as ChemCert and a Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
- Hold a current and valid MR Licence or the ability to achieve in the first 3 months of employment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of horticulture practices with experience in the field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHS practices and ability to participate in a safe working environment.
- Proven ability to show initiative in solving problems, improving methods and productivity along with the ability to seek guidance and advice where required.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. Wages are dependent upon qualifications, skills and experience. Unqualified (studying Certificate III or above) wages commence at $1,153.70 per week plus Award allowances, and qualified (Certificate III Horticulture or above) wages commence at $1,212.10 per week plus Award allowances.
