Lake Macquarie City Council is one of the largest employers of training positions in the Hunter region. The Trainee Business Support Officer is part of Council’s Early Careers program – designed to provide you with on-the-job experience, mentoring and support from highly skilled professionals, all while you complete a formal qualification. ABOUT THE JOB
This exciting two-year traineeship offers you the opportunity to complete a Certificate IV in Business Administration while gaining real-world experience and developing valuable skills that will set you up for future success.
As a Trainee Business Support Officer, you’ll be part of a dynamic team, gaining hands-on experience in administrative operations while contributing to the department’s objectives. In this role, you’ll provide a range of administrative support, including managing and processing requisitions and invoices, and reconciling departmental credit card transactions. You’ll also be supported to prepare correspondence, reports, and other documentation required for meetings and team activities.
You’ll receive a mix of on-the-job training and online learning through the Australian College of Commerce and Management.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Engage with internal and external customers in a friendly and professional manner, creating a positive experience with Council
- Learn and apply the systems and processes used in day-to-day operations
- Assist with a variety of administrative tasks, helping the team meet its operational and business objectives.
The position is located at Council’s Temporary Administration Centre in Wallsend until further notice. You will work Monday to Friday.

WHAT WE OFFER
- Receive a wage whilst studying towards a qualification starting from $855.38 per week plus 12 per cent superannuation
- Payment of all course fees
- Paid time to study and attend compulsory classes
- Yearly pay reviews and increases based on performance
- 35 hour working week with nine-day fortnight
- Four weeks paid annual leave

ABOUT YOU
We are looking for people who:
- Have completed year 12 HSC or equivalent, with satisfactory English and Math results
- Are interested in business administration and eager to learn how Council delivers its projects and drives community development
- Are committed to completing the training course requirements over two years
- Enjoy working in a team
- Have good attention to detail and ability to utilise council systems such as Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Hold a minimum of Provisional Drivers Licence.
