About the role:
The Child Safety Project Officer plays a pivotal role in leading and embedding child-safe practices and culture across Council. This position ensures compliance with the NSW Child Safe Standards and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. The role provides strategic advice, supports continuous improvement, and fosters a culture of child safety through collaboration, training, and governance.
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of child-safe standards across Council.
- Provide strategic advice to ensure compliance with child safety legislation and frameworks.
- Develop and implement solutions to improve child-safe outcomes across programs and services.
- Deliver child safety training to all staff, including updates on legislation and policy changes.
- Embed child safe practices across the organisation
- Engage with children, families, and communities to inform and shape child-safe strategies.
- Liaise with external bodies such as the Office of the Children’s Guardian to ensure obligations are met.
- Benchmark Council practices against sector best practice and recommend improvements.

What you’ll need to succeed:
- Tertiary level qualification and/or experience in implementation of child safe standards within a child safe organisation
- Substantial experience and ability to lead, coach and mentor teams at a demonstrated high level of competency
- Proven initiative, with demonstrated ability to achieve business outcomes and drive culture change.
- Demonstrated capacity to prioritise tasks and to manage competing tasks in agreed timelines
- High level interpersonal skills to engage with and influence stakeholders
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Current class C driver's licence
- Current working with children check
- Current child protection certificate, or willingness to obtain.
