Senior Flood Specialist
Maitland City Council is seeking a Senior Flood Specialist to join our Environment and Sustainability team.
The Opportunity
Our Senior Flood Specialist is responsible for providing expert technical advice in flood risk management.
This role is responsible for applying the NSW Flood Risk Management Manual to develop and implement effective and comprehensive flood risk management strategies. You will lead and undertake complex flood risk assessments, oversee the delivery and technical review of flood studies and flood modelling projects, and work collaboratively with the wider team to strengthen our LGA's flood resilience and support initiatives that mitigate flood impacts.
Working closely with our Flood Specialist and broader internal teams, you will also oversee and assess planning proposals and development applications that involve flood risk considerations. The role ensures all assessments align with relevant legislation, guidelines, and best‑practice principles to support safe and resilient development within the LGA.
Maitland City Council is also recruiting for a Flood Specialist.
About You
You will possess tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Planning or a related discipline or hold an equivalent combination of relevant contemporary industry experience.
You will have demonstrated experience in developing strategies, policies and guidelines for flood risk management and will have had significant experience in applying flood risk management principles within the NSW planning framework.
You will be a strong communicator and be able to demonstrate the ability to engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders and our community. You will also have strong project management skills and experience in leading flood mitigation projects.
Benefits
This is a permanent full-time role, working 35 hours per week with a base salary ranging from $111,958 - $124,274 per year + 12% p.a. superannuation.
